Seven ways to feel more glamourous

After five days of hardcore essay writing I have become desparate to write anything unrelated to existenisalism in D.H. Lawrence or (horror of horrors) a close reading of The Faerie Queene. It's good to be back! I've been playing around with tips from the obvious to the clever, to make a list of my top seven ways to look and feel more glamourous in our everyday lives.

1. Wear (vintage or faux) fur

So I thought I'd get the provocative suggestion out of the way first, I know a lot of people would see the use of fur as cruel and write us off as ghastly individuals automatically. However, wearing vintage fur is recycling, we never wear new fur. Anyway, there is nothing that makes me feel so fabulous as the soft touch of a fur wrapped round me. Adding a small bit of fur to a outfit is a quick and easy way to add instant glamour!

For reference my cheapest fur was a lovely large 40's mink collar from eBay for about £5.00 and my most expensive fur was my trusty 30's fox fur stole for £35 "Wow retro" in covent garden.

(For the faint hearted there's faux, but I strongly recommend rehoming a old fur!)

2. Get eyelash extensions

One of my favourite treatments has to be getting eyelash extensions, I go for the side "Audrey Hepburn" style lashes which only cost me £15. They last for about a month if kept well and make you feel lovely when you have no make-up on at all.

3. Have a home pamper

Now here's a suggestion which all women will know works wonders, it's a obvious suggestion but we all forget to treat ourselves. By grabbing some sweet bath stuff and pampering products from Lush, you can have some serious "me time" on the cheap. My favourite is the "comforter" for £3.95 at all Lush stores, the bubble bar turns your bath a luxourious pink with yummy bubbles and lasts for about five bathes.

(N.B. Add a glass of fake champange and some dark chocolate for ultimate old Hollywood on a student's budget!)

4. Wear stockings

A woman will always tell you beautiful underwear makes one feel confident. Like a "secret" stockings make you feel wonderfull throughout the day. See my previous blog on suspender belts and girldes for further advice.

5. Get matching

I'm currently obsessed with matching. I'm currently attempting to have all my browns match, I have a beautiful black cape with brown mink fur round the top which I am matching with brown gloves, brown shoes etc. Matching is so old time-y and all about the detail. I drool over expensive matching vintage shoes and bag sets on ebay on a regular basis!

6. Wear heels

On some crappy programme I once heard the phrase "women that wear flats are quitters". This is not only tv gold, but a amusing phrase I think of when others are surprised that I walk every day in four inch heels. Heels are glamorous, flattering and do not need to be uncomfortable. I have the first two pairs of heels above. The black are my trusty everyday shoes which I have in tan too, easy to walk in and easy to use in the day and evening. The red suede are comfy and easy to walk in, for days when I need to walk a lot. The tan are just such a great height and shape, they also come in a grey colour.

For real old time glamour, keep your heels polished at all costs! Buy traditional polish for that wonderful detail.

7. Be warm!

There has to be nothing I loath more, than seeing scantily clad ladies out in the freezing cold! When it comes to winter dressing add jumpers, slips, woolly tights and fur to everything! Lets face it ladies, wearing nothing in the cold just looks cheap and painful.

So there are my top seven tips! Hope these aid you to add a little sprinkle of glamour to this cold winter!

Warm wishes

Blimey O'Riley

Gosh, it's been such a long time since our last post that I decided to let you all know we're still alive! Very sorry the lack of posts, however, we've been quite busy. I've been working hard on my literature midterms whilst Harriett has a new job in "The Vintage Emporium".

Enough about The Vintage Emporium, Hattie has a fabulous blog post in the works. Last week we attended Blitz party accompanied by our lovely friends Erika and Alice. Unfortunately Harriett and I are terrible at bringing cameras out to parties so I can't upload a decent picture. Fortunately the world of facebook brings a picture of us at a previous Blitz with some darling guys and dolls.

We're very excited to be attending "The Second Grand Anarcho-Dandyist Ball" on Saturday. Organised by retro magazine "The Chap" and the gorgeous lot that run Blitz, it's sure to be a hit. Tickets are selling like hotcakes, so snap yours fast at
http://www.nightof1000waistcoats.com/next-event. We're currently trying to decide between buying 30's gowns or wearing our 40's suits, hmm tricky...

I'm currently writing "ten ways to look and feel more glamorous", it should be up by Tuesday at the latest.

A modern pin up's guide to lingerie: Gilda and Pearl

You know it's Christmas when the CokaCola advert sings from the screen "Holidays are comin'". It can be quite a test for a new boyfriend to buy his gal some smalls, from cheap red lace to expensive basics; all of men can go wrong.

So here is a brand that can never fail to knock a lady off her tootsies. Vintage inspired Gilda and Pearl make very pretty, luxourious sets that walk the fine line of sexy and trashy.

Gilda and Pearl have to be the perfect christmas gift, using silks and expensive lace they are too expensive for a personal treat. However not overertly expensive for a genourous man's wallet.

For a gentle push in the right direction foward your man this page or quietly mention gildapearl.co.uk!

Make do and mend

Inspired by the 1940's "make do and mend" attitude, me and Harriett have been making felt pieces to repair broken clothes or simple jazz up a simple item.

Here's my jumper with a apple inspired by a nickname my Nan gave me when I was a little girl. I simpley found a template on the Internet and cut out the felt design.

Here is Harriett's skirt with a beautiful rose design, she gave this skirt to me recently, however, it is too small for me! Perhaps she'll consider putting it on our soon to come etsy shop!

Here is a original 1940's dress with a tulip design on the skirt pocket.

Hope this short post inspired you to make your own creations! Sorry for the lack of posts we are currently busy making our etsy shop!

Love
