Interview: Casey's Elegant Musings

Hello all, so guess what? We reached our 100 followers milestone! We're so happy about this, it may not be a lot to many but to us its a reason to celebrate. So firstly thank you all so much to our new and old readers alike for reading our ramblings. As a little treat for our followers I've organised a collection of interviews from our favorite bloggers and I think starting with 'Casey's elegant musings' is a great start!

Casey's blog never fails to intrigue, excite and inform me. Sometimes very popular blogs tend to lose sight of their followers and rely on their old posts to bring readers a'reading. This is certainly not the case with Casey! She constantly posts inspirations, tutorials and even recipes. Without any further rambling praise, heres our interview with Casey.

1. Please tell us about one of your favorite items of clothing or jewelery and why?
My favorite piece of clothing has to be this dress.

It’s a gorgeous late 50s/early 60s daydress that a friend sent me in a swap we did last summer. The colors are amazing and the fit is spot-on for me.Can’t wear it enough during the spring and summertime!

My current favorite piece of jewelry is this wild little charm bracelet. I picked it up at a “parking lot sale” one of the local vintage shops was hosting in the spring, and couldn't resist. I love jangly charm bracelets, and this one has some really pretty charms on it. The lady who sold it to me said it was her mother’s from the early 70s.  But it works perfectly with my more 40s/50s influenced look.

2. Name a blog that you can't get enough of
Tough one! I am an avid fan of so many blogs. But I think I’d have to say that currently Fashionable Forties and Dear Golden are inspiring reads. Fashionable Forties because Isis has really researched and knows her stuff, and then Dear Golden because it’s pure vintage eye candy!

3. Who's your favorite designer (modern or/and vintage) and why?
I sound like a broken record to those who know me, but Claire McCardell is my favorite designer of the past. She had such a great eye for what was flattering and practical to the female form; one of the mothers of American sportswear. One day I’d love to own one of her cotton daydresses! I came close this past spring, but it was a tad bit too large and sadly I was on a shopping ban at the time. Modern designers... That’s a bit more tough. I don’t really keep up with a lot of the “big” names, so I’ll have to go with the lady behind the Nadinoo line. I love her sweet aesthetic and use of pretty prints. Each time she releases a new collection I spend hours looking at the pictures and coveting the clothes!

4. Do you have a style icon?

Several! Modern-wise, I think Fleur de Guerre and Dita von Teese are examples of ladies who manage to look glamorous all the time. From the past it’s Gene Tierney, Rita Hayworth and Lauren Bacall. I’ve had more than a few people say I remind them of a young Lauren Bacall, which delights me to no end. lol.

5. Whats your favorite beauty product?
Right now I’m loving my liquid eyeliner—it’s waterproof and won’t budge! Which is vital since I live in the heat and humidity of Florida. It’s MAC Cosmetic’s “Liquidlast”. Totally worth all the pennies it costs!

6. Please tell us something about yourself which is completely unrelated to fashion/fashion culture.
This is always one of those questions I wonder how to answer, because I often think of myself as a rather boring and quiet person! lol. Perhaps the most interesting little tidbit is that as ladylike as I look, I love with a deep passion hard rock ‘n roll. Led Zepplin, The Black Keys, The White Stripes, etc. Anything grungy, 70s-sounding I adore. But for more demure things, I love to cook and eat too! Exploring new cuisines is a hobby of mine, and I’ve enjoyed the past couple years trying all sorts of new things from baby octopus at a Japanese restaurant, to making Tunisian dishes at home.

Thanks again to Casey for the interview and again please check out her blog at http://blog.caseybrowndesigns.com. We'll soon be posting interviews with Solanah and Elsa.

Love Aimee xx
